Janet Elaine Smith and her husband Ivan were missionaries in Venezuela for 9 years, but they now
live in Grand Forks, ND, where they have run Mission Socorro, a HELPs organization, for over 30 years. They have three adults,
who were once known as their "children." Janet began writing so she wouldn't forget their experiences in Venezuela. By the
time she had finished that, she was "hooked" on writing.
Janet Elaine Smith was a successful magazine writer for 20 years before her first book, Dunnottar,
was published. She had written it at the outset of her writing career, but when it was finally published it became an almost
instant success, garnering the No. 1 bestselling Scottish book on Amazon.com for 3 months, making Janet a "20-year overnight success."
That was in June 2000. While
she still writes for numerous magazines, her true love of writing fiction has produced 15 published novels in multi-genres.
She admits that she writes "to entertain," but something happens along the way and good seems to follow her characters, which
delights her no end.
